So a little about the domain name – TheWriterEricJohnson.com. I chose it not for its pretentiousness, but because I’m pretty far back in the line of Eric Johnsons, which includes the guitar player, the actor, the football player and a lot of other notable and not so notable individuals. Just Google them. You’ll see.
I’m not them. I’m the writer Eric Johnson, a guy who’s made his fictional home in the small Wisconsin river town of Burly Flow. I’ve published a memoir about my first year among the fisherman and farmers and river rats and Summer Folk and continue to write about them in my weekly column, Dispatches from a Burly Flow, which you’ll find here on this site.
Currently, I’m the communications and media manager at Augusta University, where I manage the crew that writes and pitches the news of the university and its health system. I also serve as managing editor of our news and information website and am the editor of two of the institution’s award-winning print magazines, both of which I helped redesign. Before that, I was a journalist and news editor for the Metro Spirit, an alternative weekly newspaper. I also work as a freelance writer, primarily in the energy and healthcare sustainability sectors. My fiction has appeared off and on in literary journals and consumer publications for the last 25 years.
While my time is currently limited, I’m open to taking on new assignments and am always willing to discuss whatever help I might be able to provide. Feel free to reach out to me here.
